Since July 25, people opposed to fracking in Balcombe, West Sussex, have been resisting fracking company Cuadrilla Resources’ attempts to start test drilling. On day 1 (July 25), over 250 people stopped 15 trucks trying to bring in equipment. On Day 2 more than 100 police were used to break the blockade and escort trucks onto the fracking site. On Day 3 the community continued to resist attempts to force trucks through the blockade but gave up early afternoon. On Day 4 Cudrilla did not attempt to bring any trucks onto the site. On Day 5 Cuadrilla continued to try to push trucks through the blockade.
It’s now day 8, and the resistance is continuing with different creative activities taking place every day, and people arriving from far and wide to offer support.
On Saturday August 3, Combe Haven Defenders will be taking a trip to Balcombe to offer our solidarity. Please join us! We’ll be catching the 9.55 train from Hastings (9.57 Warrior Square) and returning later that day (the trip takes about 1hr 45m). See here for what you can bring to help out the camp.
