NOTE: PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING CONFIRMED: TUESDAY 15 DECEMBER, 6PM, WHITE ROCK THEATRE HASTINGS. COMBE HAVEN DEFENDERS WILL BE OUTSIDE THE THEATRE WITH BANNERS FROM 5PM: PLEASE JOIN US!
Please object NOW to the planning application for the Queensway Gateway road. If you objected before, you can make a further objection based on the new information from SeaChange. If you haven’t objected yet, now’s the time!
Objections should in theory be in by 4 December, but in practice they will be accepted until a day or two before the planning committee meeting at which the issue is decided (ie 15 December). However, please do try to get your objections in by 4 December if possible.
Come to the meeting
For some unknowable reason, Hastings council has decided to hear the planning application for the QGR at the White Rock Theatre rather than the Town Hall (6pm, Tuesday 15 December). It’s a much bigger venue, so more than ever we need everyone who can make it to come along to show the strength of opposition to this road. Please come, and please bring as many people with you as you can!
For more information about the revised planning application, see our blogpost here.
Use our draft or write your own
We’ve written a draft objection below: you can use this, or pick out a couple of points, or write your own. You don’t have to quote planning policies but should make points that are ‘material’ – ie ones which the planning committee is obliged to take into account (guidance from Hastings council on what they will and won’t take into account here).
For an objection you can print and sign, and deliver to the council (Aquila House) see here.
How to object
Go to this page of Hastings Council’s website (note: HBC planning website links often don’t work. We’ve told them this on multiple occasions but nothing has been done to rectify the problem. If you get a ‘document unavailable’ message, try this page, and click on ‘make a public comment’.)
Objection: HS/FA/14/00832 | Construction of a new road linking Sedlescombe Road North (A21) with Queensway (B2092) | Proposed Queensway Gateway Road
I wish to object to the above planning application for the Queensway Gateway road because:
1) SeaChange’s revised air quality assessment shows that the proposal will cause breaches of permitted air pollution levels in the Hollington Valley local wildlife site;
2) There is no local or regional need for the development proposed when the council and the developer are unable to fill empty business parks (North Queensway, Enviro 21) already built and permitted nearby;
3) The proposed road will cause an unnecessary increase in traffic by encouraging road transport when the council should be taking urgent action to reduce this;
4) The Council must urgently provide ways of repairing the considerable environmental harm that has already been caused by this unnecessary proposal and take steps to improve the wildlife and biodiversity of the area rather than make it worse.
