‘You must be choking!’  That’s the message we want to send to Hastings Council and Seachange, as they gear up for a second go at the planning permission for the Queensway Gateway road.  Please put Sunday July 26 in your diary now, and join us with your gas masks and placards (there’ll be a prize for the best one).  Tea and cake provided!

When: Sunday July 26, 1.45pm
Where: Meet on Sedlescombe Road North (the A21) by the Esso garage just north of Sainsburys: see here for map.  See below for bus details.
What: Photo op on one of the roads affected by air pollution, followed by walk and tea and cake in Hollington Valley.  Please bring any kind of gas/dust mask you might have, and also a placard if you’re feeling creative.

Bus: Meet us at the bus stop outside Christ Church at the bottom of London Road to get the 13.02 bus (number 26) to Harrow Lane, from where we will walk (a couple of minutes) to the meeting place.

Background

Hastings Council agreed recently to quash the planning permission they had granted in February for the Queensway Gateway road.  Whilst they attempted to present the problem as merely a procedural one, the real issue was that if built, the road would breach national and EU directives on air pollution, including in several residential properties.  This is a huge issue, and we wait with bated breath to see how they’re going to tackle it.

SeaChange recently stated that ‘We understand that Hastings Borough Council is intending to reconsider the Queensway Gateway road scheme at a further planning committee meeting in the near future‘ (emphasis added).  We need to be vigilant for their next move, and keep up the ante to protect Hollington Valley in perpetuity.

Join us to tell the council and SeaChange that we don’t want their road!
